"Cool It"

In my english class we watched a documentary called Cool It. The film was based off Bjorn Lomborg book The Skeptical Environmentalist. He talks about in this film about global climate change is effecting our environment. Lomborg is using a Rogerian point of view to express his concerns about the environment. Lomborg shows respect for the opposition team by saying that he agrees with most of what they are saying but he thinks there are better ways to take care of this solution. Lomborg says that he agrees that global warming is occurring but wants to come up with a financially better way to fix global warming. He is providing facts, while working in the middle to not extremely scare people but to tell them there needs to be a solution. He wants his audience to reach everyone not just the people who agree with Al Gore or the people who agree that global warming is not even happening at all. Lomborg thinks that with 250 billion dollars he can fix the problem of global warming and with the same money help with health and education in third world countries. Some of the solutions he mentions is that we need to find new ways of energy that we can store and that are more cost efficient. He talks about solar and wind energy but says both are very expensive and there is not way to store the energy. In the documentary he talks about both extremes of global warming and tells about how both of the pro’s and con’s. Lomborg says that Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth wants to spend billion of dollars but in the future the temperature won’t change significantly. He wants to scare the people who watch it so that they will want to make a difference. It brought awareness to the country but some of the information is incorrect. Al Gore video was only awareness but it didn’t give a solution to the problem of global warming. Lomborg talks about how he read the book The State of Humanity by Julian Simon. This book describes how the world is actually doing better then what the global warming activist are saying that we are doing. He then took this book to his smartest students and they wanted to come up with ways to prove Julian Simon wrong. This inspired him to write the book The Skeptical Environmentalist to say his views about global warming.
